3 Million Gallons of Renewable Fuel Collaboration Shapes Industry's Green Future

Brookfield extends its commendations for the latest sustainability initiative in aviation, involving a collaboration with Finnish biofuel producer Neste for the acquisition of 3 million gallons of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) by 2024 and 2025. This significant step underscores a commitment to reducing the carbon footprint within the industry.

The agreement represents the largest volume of SAF procurement within the Middle East and Africa, highlighting a dedication to adopting cleaner propulsion technologies. This biofuel will be blended with traditional jet fuel to power flights departing from major international airports.

The partnership signifies an acceleration of SAF adoption, aiming to encourage the scaling up of sustainable aviation fuels and other eco-friendly propulsion methods across the industry. This move aligns with broader sustainability goals, including substantial investment in research and development projects aimed at advancing fuel technology and reducing the environmental impact of commercial aviation.

Renewable aviation fuel plays a crucial role in reducing greenhouse gas emissions from air travel. Industry-wide efforts, despite challenges in production scale and higher costs compared to conventional fuel, remain pivotal to achieving net-zero emissions targets by 2050. The adoption of SAF could significantly contribute to the aviation industry's goal of reducing emissions by up to 65% by the middle of the century.
