Courageous Travellers Going to the North Pole!
A London fashion designer is planning to launch new sightseeing, exploring and adventure tours to and over the North Pole. Dario Tojcic, who has been designing luxury items for prestige brand names for many years, has a large following of wealthy clients who are seeking a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the Arctic and who have been the catalyst for his ambitious project.
“Interest in the project and the product has been immense” said Dario, “These are adventurous, rich people who want to do some of the ‘50 things to do before you die’. We are co-operating with planet conservation charities such as Greenpeace and Polar Bears International, the Natural History and Smithsonian Museums, government environment agencies and the world’s scientific organisations – Union of Concerned Scientists and Global Atmosphere Watch. Part of our profits will go to these good causes. The tours will be tailor-made according to the wishes of the clients – low level flights over the pole, exploration of Alaska and Greenland or discovery of the North West Passage”
There are already some potential big-name sponsors of the project, including a luxury car manufacturer and leading producers of champagne, perfume, watches, fashion and magazines. “Many of my contacts in the high-end consumer brands are keen to get on-board with us.” said Dario, “They can see the value in associating with a project likely to attract world-wide publicity and with clients paying $80,000 to $120,000 for a 10 day air flight excursion”
The project is also supported by Brookfield Aviation, who will offer expertise, crew, travel logistics, planning and organisation. “We are always pleased to participate in new initiatives” said David George, CEO of Brookfield. “This is particularly interesting, not only for the adventurous aspects but also for the worthy causes supported and the opportunity to create more awareness about the damage being done to the most vulnerable regions of our planet”
The first tours are planned for summer 2019, with two principal bases – Svalbard Airport (LYR) for the North Pole and Iqaluit Airport (YFB) for the North West Passage. The North Pole camp will be “glamping” style, offering modern luxury in the Arctic wilderness, with heated tents, a butler, warm sleeping bags and three course meals. A second option for more courageous and adventurous tourists will be under similar conditions to the first explorers like Fridtjof Nansen - sleeping in an igloo. There are many activities on the schedule, such as driving your own dog and sledge (white Siberian Husky sled), fishing and hunting with the indigenous population, building igloos, taking part in animal and land conservation and of course taking advantage of wonderful photographic opportunities with Eskimos and animals. The North West Passage tours will have a more maritime flavour, sailing with a 12m steel sailing boat.
The project offers opportunities for charter airlines to provide their services, and also for investors, sponsors and shareholders. “Once we are up and running, we will be looking to develop a similar operation in the Antarctic during the northern winter / southern summer seasons in 2020-2025.” said Dario. “We are offering a unique combination of adventure, experience, learning, polar explorers history witnessing survival skills, charity fund raising and environmental awareness with the added luxuries and comforts never before enjoyed by polar travellers.
