Aircraft dispatchers are basically the salt in the dish that is aviation operations, rather overlooked in the big picture, but their absence can cause significant disruption. They operate from the control centres rather than in the cockpit or at the airport. Despite their low visibility, the responsibility of flight safety falls on them alongside the pilots. They play a key role in making certain that flight operations are efficient and compliant with safety measures. One of their main responsiblities is flight planning. Before the flight takes off, it is the duty of the dispatchers to analyse weather conditions, aircraft status, fuel requirements, and airspace restrictions to design safe and efficient routes. This process ensures that each flight is properly prepared for both normal operations and potential disruptions.

After the take-off is complete, dispatchers work in close coordination with the pilots, ATC staff, and maintenance staff to ensure all flight operations go smoothly. They are also involved in managing irregular situations such as diversions or emergencies, where quick and informed decisions are essential. The role requires both technical expertise and the confidence to make critical decisions under pressure.

The profession also demands a diverse set of skills, combining analytical thinking with real-time problem-solving. By combining planning, monitoring, and real-time decision-making, they help ensure that every flight operates safely and efficiently from departure to arrival.
