The skies over Great Yarmouth seafront will be a sight to behold at night next week when an aeroplane launches fireworks in a dramatic aerobatic and stunt display over the sea. This marks the first of six weekly summer spectacles, painting the sky with technicolour brilliance.
A motor glider, illuminated by around 2,000 LED lights, will perform beautiful pyrotechnic displays above the seafront. Fireworks attached to its long wings will be launched at dusk every Wednesday throughout the summer holidays. Its first flight took place on 23 July.
The aerial acrobatics will be performed by the same team who thrilled crowds at the Dubai World Cup, Formula 1 in Saudi Arabia, and events in New Zealand and across Europe.
The flight, which will begin after sunset, promises to “paint the sky with light and colour, creating breath-taking shapes” in a non-stop breathtaking show from a GROB 109B motor glider.
Asa Morrison, Chief Executive of Visit Great Yarmouth, said in a statement, "Our fireworks events are hugely popular, drawing in locals and visitors, with many people enjoying displays at both locations, coming back week after week. This new dimension of fireworks takes the displays to a whole new level of spectacle and novelty."
Research conducted by Destination Research UK and commissioned by Visit Great Yarmouth last year revealed Big Tuesdays and Wednesdays had a substantial impact on the local economy. Thirteen events resulted in a net impact of £3,313,000 and created 45 full-time equivalent (FTE) jobs.
