Last week, the South American country of Venezuela was hit by a series of devastating earthquakes in quick succession, some of the most powerful in a century, with magnitudes of 7.2 and 7.5. The disaster has left a destructive trail behind it, with around 1,900 people dead, more than 10,000 injured, and countless families displaced.

Many countries from across the globe have sent aid to the distressed nation as it reels from the aftermath of the earthquakes. The British Red Cross has been at the forefront of the response and is part of the umbrella organisation, the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC).

The British Red Cross is already helping to organise the emergency response to the earthquakes in Venezuela, including supporting search and rescue efforts and planning for long-term humanitarian assistance, including the provision of clean water, food, and safe shelter.

“Red Cross estimates that almost 10 million people could have been affected by these earthquakes, with around 500,000 of these needing urgent humanitarian assistance,” said Alexander Pendry, Head of Emergencies, Logistics & Surge at the British Red Cross.

The importance of acting quickly during a disaster of this scale cannot be overstated. The British Red Cross is working in close coordination with the Venezuelan Red Cross Society (VRCS) to help ensure aid reaches those who need it most.

Brookfield Aviation International has decided to provide financial support to the British Red Cross in assisting the people of Venezuela during their time of need.

“What has happened in Venezuela is truly heartbreaking. We are citizens of a globalised world, and we have a responsibility to assist those who are in distress,” said David George, CEO of Brookfield Aviation International.

We encourage everyone to support this humanitarian cause. Visit the official British Red Cross appeal page for Venezuela to learn more and contribute to the relief effort:
