Recruitment within the aviation sector focuses on building relationships and developing a strong understanding of the needs of airlines and aviation professionals. Over the years, Dea has developed extensive knowledge of the industry and has a background in Law, Employment Relations and Project Management.
Since joining Brookfield in March 2019, Dea progressed from a Business Analyst role to a Business Manager role in 2021. This progression has allowed her to expand her responsibilities and deepen her understanding of the aviation industry. She says, "It has been an incredible journey so far. The industry is always evolving, and I have had new opportunities every year."
Before joining Brookfield, Dea was interested in International Business, People Management and Organisation. She studied a degree in Law and Employment Relations at the University of Bologna. She later completed a Master's degree in Project Management at BPP University. This gave her a good foundation when joining Brookfield and entering a new and specific industry. Today she works with airlines and aviation professionals around the world in a Business Manager role where her responsibilities include delivering recruitment projects, crew administration and client support.
"A large part of what I do is relationship building with pilots and ensuring we understand the requirements of our clients; we deliver a high-quality service to our candidates and airlines." When asked about the biggest challenges, she explained: “Working globally can lead to many challenges. Distinct cultures, regulations, time zones and processes can all make the entire process complex.’
For her, the best way to overcome any challenge is through flexibility and communication; she believes that these have become essential skills for her day-to-day work. "We operate on a worldwide basis within the aviation industry, which means we work with different cultures, regulations and time zones. Flexibility, attention to detail and creating great relationships are key skills I have learned."
When discussing the most rewarding aspects of her role, Dea highlights the opportunity to work closely with people. "A great part of my role is working with people. Aviation can be a massive decision for people to make, whether that involves moving countries, joining a new airline or taking the next step towards their long-term goals. As every successful placement has a unique story behind it, being part of that journey makes my job worthwhile." With the recovery and growth of the aviation industry, it has been amazing to support our airlines and see candidates progress in roles.
When asked about the highlight of her time with Brookfield so far, she recalls, ‘the highlight has been seeing the recovery and growth of the aviation industry and being part of Brookfield's contribution to that success. Since 1993, Brookfield has supported airlines around the globe and has supported aviation professionals from many disciplines. We have extensive knowledge of the industry; however, we place equal importance on building long-term relationships. "What I admire about the company is we have a good balance between professionalism and approachability. We know the aviation industry is a people industry, so creating good relationships is key."
When asked about the recent developments in tech within recruitment, she says, “Technology will play a larger role within recruitment. It can make recruitment easier in many ways; for instance, it could improve communication and help recruiters find potential candidates. However, I believe technology will work alongside people because, at the end of the day, candidates still value compassion and authenticity, which is our main objective here in Brookfield."
When we asked her about her ambition, she expressed, “My aim is to continue developing within the aviation industry. I hope to continue building great relationships across the industry and helping Brookfield support the next generation of aviation professionals."
