British Aviation Experience 2018

This summer, Brookfield Education and Training’s unique programme for teenagers “The British Aviation Experience” welcomed young aviators from around the world for two weeks intensive training in many aspects of the business. The course consists of flying lessons with aerobatics, a session in a full motion B-747 simulator, visits to MRO facilities, airline operational headquarters, aircraft museums, SEP training day, lectures from aviation professionals and more. This was the second year that we have run the programme and plans are already underway for more courses in 2019.

Students arrived in London from all over Europe, Australia, China and Hong Kong and participated alongside some UK students, all aged 14-18 with a keen interest in aviation – principally in flying and engineering. Edward, a British student says “thanks to everyone for some of the best memories in my life so far. This was truly one of the best things I have ever done. Thank you to Brookfield for running this programme and enabling us to have an insight into the world of aviation and helping us to figure out where we want to go in the future”

Following the success of this course during the past two years, there will be opportunities for more students to participate next summer. “BAE 2018 was sold out by early Spring this year” said Todd Skaggs, V.P Educational Services for Brookfield, “so next year we will be putting on extra courses throughout the summer, plus a slightly different version for over 18s. But the focus will remain the same – to provide young people with as much exposure to as many aspects of the industry as possible, to help them make an informed choice about the career path they want to follow”.

Details of the 2019 programme will be announced by the end of October. Meanwhile we would like to thank all of the organisations that participated in this years’ programme: British Airways, Lufthansa Technik Shannon, Cardiff Aviation, Pilot Flight Training Oxford, Titan Airways, HQ Aviation, RAF Museum Hendon, Buckinghamshire New University, and the many individual professionals who contributed to the success of the project.
