The highly anticipated Jewar International Airport near Noida is scheduled to commence operations in April 2025, according to Civil Aviation Minister Kinjarapu Rammohan Naidu. Positioned to become Asia’s largest airport, Jewar is expected to elevate India’s global aviation presence.

In a recent statement in the Rajya Sabha, Minister Naidu confirmed that preparations remain on track, with successful validation flights completed in December 2024. Airlines including Air India and IndiGo have expressed strong interest in operating from the new hub, which is designed to handle high volumes of both passenger and cargo traffic.

Strategic Location & Infrastructure Boost

Located near the Noida-Greater Noida Expressway, Jewar Airport offers strategic proximity to Delhi-NCR. Ongoing road infrastructure upgrades are expected to improve accessibility, aiming for seamless multimodal connectivity to the airport.

National Aviation Push

In line with the government’s broader aviation strategy, the Minister also announced a 10-year extension of the UDAN scheme, aimed at improving regional air access. The plan includes the development of 100 new airports across India, bolstering connectivity and economic integration.

Kushinagar Airport Next in Line

Addressing queries in Parliament, Naidu also confirmed that Kushinagar Airport is nearing operational readiness. This move aligns with India’s commitment to expanding aviation infrastructure and bridging underserved regions.

With Jewar Airport poised for launch, India is taking a major step toward becoming a global aviation hub, underpinned by robust infrastructure investment and strategic policy support.

As the countdown to Jewar Airport’s operational debut begins, its impact is expected to resonate far beyond the Delhi-NCR region. By enhancing international connectivity, attracting global carriers, and supporting cargo and passenger traffic at an unprecedented scale, Jewar is set to redefine the future of Indian aviation. Combined with government-led initiatives like UDAN and parallel airport developments, India is laying the groundwork for a transformative leap in global air transport leadership.
