IATA to Hold its Annual Meeting in India After 42 Years.

After a gap of 42 years, the International Air Transport Association will hold its annual general meeting in India. Global aviation industry leaders gathered in New Delhi from the first of June to the third. The IATA represents about 350 airlines from across the world, which amounts to roughly 80% of global air traffic.
The Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is expected to deliver keynote address on the 2 June in front of the 1,700 participants of the meeting. The host airline for this year’s meeting is IndiGo. The last time IATA held the meeting in India was in 1983.

IATA Director Willie Walsh stated that the group is excited for the event to be hosted in India after a 42-year gap. The meeting will see key industry leaders, government officials, and media personnel in attendance.
“India’s place in global aviation has changed dramatically, particularly in the last decades, the country has seen record aircraft orders, infrastructure development and overall impressive growth.” the director added in a statement.
The event will be held at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, the national capital.
As per the numbers from IATA, the aviation industry in India employs around 369,700 people in total and generates about 5.5 billion USD in GDP. When direct, induced and tourism impacts are included, the number of jobs go as high as 7.7 million and 53.6 billion USD in revenue generated.
SpiceJet, Air India and IndiGo are prominent members of the IATA.
