Making a Pilot’s Life Easier


Brookfield has been witnessing pilots encounter difficulties and issues in applying for jobs, which could lead to the result that they can’t get jobs even putting in lots of effort and even worse losing finance or losing other job opportunities. This article is to share our useful tips for pilots to avoid the unwanted situations for pilots when applying for jobs around the world.


1. When pilots have licence verification/ validation with their authority:


Not only pilots, but lots of Brookfield’s airline clients have delays when going through this stage.

Because the airlines’ aviation authorities require: Verification/validation request which must be sent from airline’s civil aviation authority to the pilot’s licence authority; then pilot’s authority replies directly to the verification/validation request of the airline’s authority.

There are lots of situations such as when the verification/validation emails from the pilot’s licence authority get lost due to security/ mail safe/ junk mail/ filter setups, hence pilot’s authority can’t receive the emails. Or the airline’s authority didn’t state the request email in correct/clear format, and so the email for licence verification was ignored. This can lead to unlimited waiting time to obtain the verification.


A solution for this situation is:

  • Pilots actively contact with their licence authority to ask for the email address or people in charge to verify licences.

  • Then the airline sends this email address provided by pilots to the airline’s authority to write verification/validation request to his licence authority; this will avoid the airline’s authority sending its request to an old/not-in-use email of the pilot’s authority, also pilots can actively check and track the verification/validation request.

2. Pilots’ authority doesn’t provide licence verification to company or authority:


Some state authorities don’t provide verification to companies or authorities, only to pilots. Moreover the verification letters are sometimes not in English, only in local languages. So many airlines accept licence verification in local language translated into English by one approved translation service.


3. Pilots out of currency:


With pilots who haven’t flown on that type of aircraft for more than 12 months and want to return to currency on type:


For example, with Airbus pilots: Pilots can enrol in a refresher A320 course at an approved ATO (Details can be found from Airbus training requirements / Brookfield also provides this support to pilots in specific cases).


4. Type rating expiry date on pilot licence:


Some state authorities hesitate to accept licences without IR expiry endorsed. Most pilots from South and North America don’t have this on their Licence. Hence pilots could have a letter from their original authority explaining why there is no TR/IR expiry; for example, FAA’s Verification mentioned:

“UNLIKE A COMMERCIAL OR PRIVATE PILOT CERTIFICATES, AN ATP CERTIFICATE CANNOT BE OBTAINED UNLESS THE AIRMAN HAS AN INSTRUMENT RATING SO IT IS UNNECESSARY TO SHOW THE INSTRUMENT RATING ON THE CERTIFICATE. ALL AIRLINE TRANSPORT PILOTS ARE INSTRUMENT RATED.”



5. Pilot doesn’t have a reference letter from previous company/ employer verification Letter:


When pilots apply, a new airline can ask for these letters, but some pilots don’t have.

Moreover, sometimes new airline requires pilots to provide a copy of license used with his last airline employer for evaluation.

  • The solution is to provide logbook pages with flight times with these airlines to support crediting flight time.
