Airlines Step up Demand for Expatriate Managers

For centuries, enterprising individuals from Europe have travelled throughout the world and taken up positions which have enhanced their wealth and social standing. In the 20th century, as the world became smaller with the advancement of air travel and improved educational and professional standards, more and more people from different nations packed their bags and headed for new pastures to take up expatriate jobs, some on the other side of the globe.

This trend has continued unabated since the beginning of the new millennium and the airline business, understandably has witnessed a massive movement of international labour. Foreign pilots and engineers have always been in great demand in many regions for short or long term assignments, however there has been a significant increase in demand for expatriates to take up positions as post holders in airlines throughout the developing world. “ In the last couple of months we have had a particularly busy time dealing with requirements from our airline clients for all types of interesting assignments” said David George, CEO of Brookfield “ these have included jobs for Quality Auditors, I.T. Specialists, Mergers and Acquisitions Consultants, Engineering Managers, Revenue Management Analysts, Flight and Ground Operations, Sales Managers and many more”.

Standards demanded by most airlines in Africa and South Asia are already high, which may come as a surprise to many people, even within the industry, and in many cases this has been due to knowledge and expertise being imported from Europe, Australia and North America. However as many of these airlines expand their businesses and route networks, a growing number of opportunities for foreign executive staff present themselves. The low cost airline sector and air cargo offer some particularly interesting assignments and as may be expected many start-up airlines need to import their post-holders en-route to obtaining their AOC.

Brookfield Aviation’s management placement specialist team are always available to identify and recruit strategically important personnel, confidentially and with the utmost discretion.
